Today we will explain why it is never a good idea to use third-party apps on WhatsApp . We refer to those applications to which you can connect your WhatsApp account to add extra features such as programming messages, but also to anyone who makes similar promises about including new features that are not in the original app.
The main reasons why you do not trust these apps are two. The first is that WhatsApp prohibits using most of them , so your account could end up closed if you get caught. But it is also that you are opening the door to applications that you do not know, and that without your knowing they could do without your permission more things than they promise.
You can be expelled from WhatsApp
You must use our Services in accordance with our published Terms and Policies. If we disable your account due to a violation of our Terms, you will not create another account without our permission.
The first big problem that you can face with many of the third-party applications that you find on the Internet is that they do not comply with WhatsApp’s terms of service, so you do not meet the rules when using them either . This, as we read in the terms of the application, can lead to the closure or disabling of your account.
No, it’s not that WhatsApp prohibits all third-party applications. In fact, you can use apps like iCloud or Google Drive to make backups in the cloud, and also others to share content in WhatsApp. However, it does not allow applications of mass message sending, automatic messaging or similar methodologies.
Legal and acceptable use. You must access our Services and use them only for legal, authorized and acceptable purposes. You will not use (or help others use) our Services in ways that: (a) violate, misappropriate or infringe the rights of WhatsApp, our users or others, including the rights of privacy, publicity, intellectual property or author or other rights of property; (b) are illegal, obscene, defamatory, threatening, intimidating, harassing, aggressive, racially or ethnically offensive, or that promote or encourage behavior that would be illegal, or otherwise inappropriate, including the promotion of violent crime ; (c) imply the publication of falsehoods, misstatements or misleading statements; (d) impersonate another person;(e) involve the sending of illegal or inadmissible communications, such as mass messaging, automatic messaging, automatic dialing and similar methodologies ; or (f) imply any other non-personal use of our Services unless we authorize otherwise.
The key is in point (e), because when you are using the classic application to schedule the sending of messages, you are really sending the messages automatically at a certain time , which conflicts with the rules of the application. This does not mean that you will be expelled immediately, but you run the risk of this happening the more you use applications with which to manipulate the messages.
Your personal information may be at risk
Our Services may allow you to access, use or interact with websites, applications, content and other third-party products and services. For example, you can choose to use third-party data backup services (such as iCloud or Google Drive) that integrate with our Services or interact with a button to share content on a third-party website that allows you to send information to your WhatsApp contacts. Keep in mind that when you use third-party services, your own terms and privacy policies will govern the use of such services.
Another thing you have to keep in mind is that when you connect to WhatsApp with another application you will depend on the privacy policies of that app . Therefore, the policies that governments force you to take a company the size of Facebook, since you happen to depend on another application that could be used to harvest the data of users for purposes that are not entirely clear .
This does not mean that each and every one of the third party applications that use WhatsApp are dangerous, but if you are not completely sure of an app and you want to avoid any risk, it is best not to use it.
One of the classic examples of applications that take advantage of WhatsApp is the WhatsApp Gold scam. It is an app derived from an older one called WhatsApp Plus, and that ended with almost all of its users expelled from WhatsApp. It is one of the best examples of third-party apps that promise many things that they do not follow, but by the time you realize you may have already taken all the personal information you wanted.
Look at the permissions of the applications , because among them can be read your phone calls and change the configuration of the mobile, as well as automatically run applications or close others, and even get the data from your WiFi. They come to be the same permissions that WhatsApp requests, but without their creators being subjected to the strict surveillance to which they are subjected to those of WhatsApp to control what they do with your data.
You put your mobile in danger
In addition to your personal data, some of these applications can also compromise your device. Be especially careful with apps that seek to replace WhatsApp, and never install them from outside of Google Play . When you install the apk from unknown sources you really do not have any way to know if these apps carry a gift inside.
Some Trojans that use WhatsApp as a gateway have been detected , and once they manage to enter your device from third-party apps they can steal your private messages, activate audio recording or connect to a WiFi controlled by cybercriminals to expose even more your cellphone.
The official Android and iOS application stores have methods to try to detect malicious apps, so be careful with the apks that you download from any other website. And even within the official stores , do not trust too much of those that promise to improve the functionality of WhatsApp.
The best thing you can do with WhatsApp is to use your official application. If you miss any option, look for another messaging application that has it, but try never to resort to third-party applications on WhatsApp because you always have all the loses.
