Halloween spider cookies
I’ve never reneged on Halloween, and I think if I like this holiday it’s “because of” the kitchen. Having an excuse to fiddle with fun recipes to share seems great to me, but I admit that those of disgusting type throw me a little back. I stay better with Halloween recipes like these adorable spider cookies, with the spirit of the party and without giving repel.
Surely you have seen cookies similar to the networks on more than one occasion. The most widespread variant is with peanut butter and in the United States they use famous peanut butter mini cups as the spider’s body. But I have opted for a simple and ordinary mass of biscuit and spherical chocolates, in two different sizes. The result is adorable and delicious, ideal for a small party or having a detail with friends.

If we have a food processor or crusher, the dough will be ready in a jiffy. It can also be done with a hand or hand blender, although this way we can heat the ingredients too much if it makes some heat in the kitchen.
Cut the cold butter into small cubes and place in the processor with flour, salt, vanilla sugar, sugar and egg. Grind until a homogeneous consistency. If the processor is small we can leave the egg and sugar for the end.
Pour the dough to the clean work surface and finish working with your hands until it is smooth. It should be smooth and homogeneous, almost nothing sticky. Wrap in plastic film and leave for 30 minutes in the fridge. If it’s cold, maybe you do not need rest.
Preheat the oven to 180º C and prepare a pair of trays with sulfurized paper, or grease them. To make large spiders we will need portions of about 20 g of mass, although they can be done a little bit to the eye. Form balls and distribute them in the trays, a little separated.
Flatten with your hand to form thick discs and, with your finger, the end of the handle of a wooden ladle or a small mortar mallet, form small holes in the center. Bake for about 10 minutes, take out carefully and go over the hole, pressing gently. It should be adjusted to the diameter of the chocolates, approximately.
Return to the oven until golden brown, about 10 minutes more. Wait a little before bringing the cookies to a rack. We can boil when they are still hot to put the chocolates, so the base will melt a little and they will stick. Be careful, if they are very hot we will have melted spiders. Take to the fridge to cool the chocolate well.
To finish the decoration you only need to melt a black chocolate bar and, with the help of a pastry bag or confectionery pencil, glue the eyes and draw the legs, four on each side. If we do not have sugar eyes, we can improvise them by also melting white chocolate. Nowadays they are easy to find, and more at this time, in specialized stores of physical or virtual confectionery.
These adorable but irresistible spider cookies are perfect for a house with kids on Halloween, if we set up a party or just if we have guests and we want to give them a sweet surprise. They are great to give or take in a colorful tray at coffee time.
